Pure Yoga – Anna de Zeeuw

Discovering harmony through balance

Mark Whitwell – Yoga of Heart

Restoring Intimacy

Saturday 6th March and Sunday 7th March

Free talk and book signing, Friday 5th March, 6pm at Scorpio Books

Mark Whitwell has enjoyed a life long relationship with the teachings of Professor T. Krishnamacharya “the teacher of the teachers”, notably BKS Iyengar, K Pattabhi Jois and TKV Desikachar.  Having studied since 1973 in the home of Krishnamacharya, Mark is committed to communicating the timeless yoga principles with compassion and clarity.

Yoga is every person’s direct intimacy with reality, which is an entirely abundant, regenerating and nurturing power.  This is yoga from the heart for the heart.  It is made clear in TKV Desikachar’s book, The Heart of Yoga: Developing a Personal Practice to which Mark contributed and edited.  Mark’s book is Yoga of Heart: The Healing Power of Intimate Connection.  Soon to be released his new book is The Promise.. Your Life’s Fulfillment: The Practical Secrets of Intimacy and Sex.

Mark Lives in Los Angeles and Fiji.  He travels throughout the world teaching the timeless principles of ancient Yoga wisdom.  In 1996 Mark established The Heart of Yoga Association, a non-profit foundation that provides yoga education around the world.  Having studied with many known and unknown yoga masters, Mark is most interested in revealing actual yoga and how each person effectively practices.

The 2010 Christchurch workshop will focus on the famous yoga sutra Sthirasukham asanam and how to actually bring the qualities of Sthira (firm, strong, attentive, alert) and Sukham (comfortable, relaxed, at ease) into your Yoga practice.  This will lead to discussion on the healing powers of intimate connection.

“To cut through the social mind to establish complete intimacy is as challenging as any “spiritual” proposition of culture.  But this challenge is within your grasp because it is the natural condition of our life.  If you do not have a partner you are definitely not excluded from these considerations.”

Two thirds practice, on third discussion.  Suitable for everyone wanting to deepen their Yoga practice.

Venue:  Cashmere Masonic Centre, Dyers Pass Road

10am – 4:30pm both days, cost $190.  Deposit of $50 to be paid by 1st March, remainder can be paid at workshop or beforehand.

Lunch:  Bring along your own lunch, or dine at The Cup Cafe directly across the road.
